Program Information:
The federal government is providing significant financial incentives for health care providers to start using electronic health records (EHRs). Each provider who meets the eligibility criteria can be paid up to $63,750 to help cover the costs of implementing an EHR system. In order to be eligible a provider needs to be: a physician, dentist, nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwife, or physician assistant practicing in a qualified structure. On top of this the Medicaid patient volume must be at least 30% of your total patient volume. For pediatricians, the threshold is only 20%. Within a reasonable timeframe, you must implement certified EHR technology. Your use of EHR technology must eventually satisfy a number of “meaningful use” criteria.
