Program Information:
Utah Medicaid is participating in the Medicaid Health Information Technology (HIT) Incentive Payment Program. This program is supported through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Utah has submitted its State Medicaid Health Information Technology (HIT) Plan to CMS on December 23, 2010. This plan must be approved before implementing the program. When approved, Utah Medicaid will be positioned to accept applications and make payments to eligible providers and eligible hospitals by the 3rd quarter of 2011. Eligible professionals and eligible hospitals will have to register in order to participate in Utah’s Medicaid EHR Incentive Program. Practices can do so, starting January 3, 2011, at a registration site maintained by CMS. Also, on January 3, 2011, CMS opens their EHR Information Center to assist the EHR Provider Community with both program and system inquiries.
