Washington State’s Medicaid EHR Incentive Program is playing an important role in establishing critical health information technology designed to reduce costs, improve care and advance coordination across the state of Washington healthcare system. This is leading to better health outcomes and healthier lives. However, in order to be able to receive federal reimbursements eligible practices need to prove meaningful use, which is defined in a very specific way for health care professionals and hospitals, and certain criteria must be met to receive payment. Meaningful use of a certified EHR These fall into general categories: such as delivering care e-prescribing and CPOE (Computerized Physician Order Entry), and exchanging health information with other providers of care or business partners like labs or pharmacies, clinical quality reporting, public health and other measures. In order to receive incentive payments, eligible practices must meet all of the “core criteria” and a set number of additional criteria from the “mat list” one of which must be a population health criteria.
