Health Information Exchange (HIE):

Health Information Exchanges provide the capability to electronically move clinical information between multiple different health care computer systems while maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, privacy, and security of that information. The purpose of HIE development is to improve healthcare delivery by making all relevant information for a particular patient readily accessible by all healthcare providers.
