I have epilepsy and had my first seizure in 15, 20 years at the casino. I woke in the er, well came and went don't know how many seizures I had? I remember parts which I never have before, I remember the voice of a female nurse and I remember looking up seeing a male nurse or doctor giving me a shot. I also remember someone ,I say someone because I remember the person sitting in a chair asking me my insurance information and can put that person with dark hair but that's it. I found the care to be good but still don't understand how they expected me to tell them insurance information when I couldn't remember where I was even at.
The medical staff and personnel were great.
The administrative people....a complete joke. It took 6 months to have BC/BS figure out what my extra cost was for a mammogram when I had moved with a mail forward. By then I was sent to collections. And the only bill I got was dated a week before! A coulple days later I got a bill (the first one) from the radiology department.
As a US citizen that travels for work - I’ve worked in multiple countries with national health services — I’ve never had a problem until dealing with the US.
Was sent to the ER by the folks at urgent care as I had severe nerve pain after a fall down my basement steps. I was denied any pain management despite being at an 11 on the pain scale and bawling my eyes out, and was aggressively told off by the aid when I inquired about it. After sitting in agony for 4 hours without so much as a Tylenol, the doctor returned to tell me that there was “nothing broken” (I could have told him that) and that he would be referring me to an orthopedist.
I walked out and will never, EVER go back. Never in my life have I received such poor care or felt so dehumanized. What’s more, I found out through a google search that the quack who “treated” me is the director of the department. For shame.
I had such incredible care at McLaren and was seen quickly by a doctor regarding my severe mess of allergies (couldn’t breathe, eyes watering, postnasal drip). He was very personable and all the nurses were especially caring. I received a steroid injection to make it through the week of finals as he understood that I needed immediate relief and prescribed me new allergy medications and a new step by step care plan.
HOWEVER, I didn’t have my insurance card on hand at the time and they told me this was fine, they would call me to get that information. They called me a few days later and I gave them all of the information to input straight off the insurance card. They told me they had everything they needed and that was it. I ended up still receiving calls and bills to my parent’s house (I am a student) and my own personal cell phone regarding this particular visit and my insurance info. Super annoying! McLaren seems to have a really hard time dealing with the paperwork aspect of proper medical care based on other reviews I’ve read.
Warm friendly staff/ doctor, very helpful
