I had both of my babies here and the labor and delivery unit was amazing!! Such great nurses and midwives! My good experience stops there, unfortunately. I have been to the ER twice, once a few years ago and once with my first pregnancy---both charges being $600 with insurance paying next to nothing. (no surprise there!) April of this year my daughter had to make a visit to the ER and had minimal care, minimal services, and very unfriendly staff. After billing our insurance, our bill is a total of $1400! This is so criminal that they would increase their charges so dramatically, for no reason at all. I have a sneaking suspicion that I am paying the price for unpaid bills and poor money management. ***RESPONSE to reply below*** Why would I further waste my time calling your customer experience line? I have spoken with multiple representatives from the SJRMC billing office who cannot explain my bill to me, or whom chose not to. Not only that, they were rude and dismissive of my concerns. Even my insurance company believes you have over charged me, and I don’t think I’m alone in these frustrations. Being the only nonprofit hospital provider in our area, this is very disappointing that you would treat patients with such disregard.

They are the worst hospital, so many issues, scary is an understatement. Go to durango, you might die here thats how little they care.

This “hospital” will assess you, but only after they patronize you to the fullest extent of their power. I’ve had maybe 2 ER doctors that weren’t the scum of the earth. Bedside manner? FORGET it. As an example, I had a threatened miscarriage. A gush of red blood. I had an ultrasound, baby was alive. I then passed large clots and a large amount of blood. I asked for another ultrasound to make sure I didn’t pass the fetus. “We can’t keep doing this, if you’re going to miscarry, you’re going to miscarry.” Guess what? Baby was still there and still alive. Thanks for making my experience so much worse than it needed to be. Not to mention all the times I’ve went into the ER to be subtly accused of being there just to get pain medication. No, I’m there for some reassurance that I’m not dying. I’ve had TWO pulmonary emboli. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN. Don’t go to this hell hole. Seriously, don’t. If you end up here, you need to figure out a way to have yourself transferred immediately. I’m taking my business elsewhere, I suggest you do too. Unless you like being shamed relentlessly.

I had sustained a critical head injury due to a fall. I was taken to the SJRMC ER. I had no memory from the time of my injury till I woke up in the hospital in Durango 28 HOURS LATER. I was admitted and stayed for two weeks. I was not admitted to SJRMC. Instead I was sent home where I had another fall. Thankfully my kids took me to Durango. Had I been admitted to SJRMC, overall things would have been different/better for for me.

If misdiagnosis and being treated like garbage is your thing, than this ER is the place for you!!! And if you happen to get Dr. Villarreal, odds are he will personally see to it that you are sent home with a life threatening condition!! He had the opportunity to see me twice in a 4 week period. The first time I came in, and after having an ultrasound, he equated my tremendous pain to nothing more than mensural cramps. The second time I came in with pain so severe that I was uncontrollably vomiting, I got another ultrasound and a CT scan (good times) and was told that I have gas!! Dr Death, I mean, Villarreal can really make you feel like a fool for thinking you might actually have a problem. The following morning I decided that just maybe a second opinion was needed. Drove 60 minutes north to Mercy Hospital in Durango to find out I have a serious abscess on my ovary and an ovarian vein blood clot. I was omitted and spent the next 6 days in the hospital, while doctors that know what they are doing, worked tirelessly to keep me from leaving my 5 kids without a mother. The ER is always filthy every time I’ve had to go there and the staff seems to always have better things to do than help you. Unless I am profusely bleeding and am in eminent danger, I will drive north to Mercy for actual help from here on out.
