Breach Description
Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital d/b/a Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (MHMH) experienced a data security incident involving the loss of a password-protected audiology testing medical device. This device, discovered missing around March 22, 2022, contained specific patient information, including first and last names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, and details of audiology tests such as dates, types, and results. Importantly, the device did not store any Social Security numbers, financial information, or detailed patient diagnosis, treatment, medication, or hospitalization data. Despite exhaustive efforts, the device could not be located, and there has been no evidence of misuse of the information it contained.
MHMH has taken steps to notify affected patients and advise them on protective measures against potential fraud and identity theft. This includes monitoring account statements and credit reports closely and reporting any suspicious activity. The hospital has also provided information on how to contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for further assistance and advice on fraud alerts and identity theft prevention.
MHMH has expressed its commitment to safeguarding personal information and has apologized for any inconvenience or concern caused by this incident. A confidential, toll-free inquiry line has been established for individuals seeking additional information
