Breach Description
NewBridge Services, a counseling service provider based in Pequannock, NJ, experienced a significant data security incident that was first detected on January 26, 2023. The organization discovered that unauthorized access to some of its systems had occurred, disrupting their operations. A forensic investigation confirmed on January 28, 2023, that protected health information (PHI) of individuals had been exposed. However, there was no evidence found of any actual or attempted misuse of the data involved in the breach.
The types of data exposed in this breach included names, addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers, treatment data/diagnosis, treating doctor, patient ID numbers, medical record numbers, Medicare/Medicaid numbers, prescription data, medical insurance data, and treatment costs
In total, 1,457 individuals were affected by this hacking incident
In response to the breach, NewBridge Services took immediate steps to secure its systems and launched an investigation with the help of independent digital forensics and incident response experts. The organization also notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation and implemented measures to enhance the security of its digital environment to minimize the risk of similar incidents occurring in the future
To address the potential risks to affected individuals, NewBridge Services mailed written notifications on April 17, 2023, informing them of the incident and the steps that could be taken to protect their personal information. Additionally, NewBridge offered complimentary identity protection services through IDX, which included 24 months of credit and dark web monitoring, a $1 million identity fraud loss reimbursement policy, and fully managed identity theft recovery services. The deadline to enroll in these services was set for July 17, 2023
