Breach Description

Optima Dermatology Holdings, LLC, based in New Hampshire, experienced a data security incident that was reported on April 18, 2022. An unauthorized party gained access to an employee’s email account, which contained protected health information (PHI). The compromised information included full names, dates of birth, medical treatment and condition information, health insurance claims and application information, health insurance policy and subscriber numbers, and medical record numbers. There was no evidence that patient Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, or financial account/payment card information were involved in this incident[3].

The breach affected 59,872 individuals, and Optima Dermatology notified the affected individuals and provided them with best practices to protect their information. This included reviewing the explanation of benefits statements from their health insurance providers and following up on any items or services not recognized. Optima Dermatology has since implemented additional security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and established a dedicated toll-free response line for individuals with questions or in need of additional information regarding the incident[3][10].
