My doctor scheduled surgery at Hackettstown and I was a bit concerned about the hospital's low rating and some of the stories, but they seemed to relate mostly to poor experiences in the Emergency Room, while the nurses and same-day surgery got generally good comments. All I can say is that the same-day surgery facility and the nurses there (Patty M., Eileen, etc.) were excellent, very much patient advocates, competent, and nice to work with. I had a great experience (as surgery goes). I asked about the ratings and I gather the ER has had issues but now has new management and doctors, so hopefully that will be good going forward, but I have only good comments.

We came here for my mom's outpatient hernia repair surgery. The reason for the 4 stars comes first as the registration lady (granted, not her regular position, she was covering for someone) took awhile getting us checked in and seemed to have trouble understanding us and keeping up with what we were telling her. She also didn't have us pay a copay we were certain we owed (were told by the doctor it would be owed) - we believe this was a mistake on her part. ANYWAY, the rest of the experience was fantastic. The nurses were all friendly, cheerful, and very good at their jobs. We worked with Patty, Holly, and Donna and loved all three - painless shots, listened to my mom, got her what she needed right away, and they were extremely efficient in getting her discharged quickly. The surgeon, Dr. Gross, is a great guy - took the time to explain everything to us and, as far as we can tell, did a solid job with the hernia repair. I felt confident with my mom in his care. The anesthesiologist was also very willing to listen to my mom and make sure she was comfortable with her care and meds administered - he definitely knew what he was doing and put us at ease. I felt very involved in the process and consistently informed and kept up to date while I waited - the screen in the waiting room showing patient progress was especially helpful. Haven't had a better experience at a hospital!

I will never come back to this hospital again. This was my preffered hospital (I have had excellent experiences in my past visits) and we drove out of our way to come to this hospital last night because of it. After waiting a while in the waiting room (understandably so, the hospital was busy last night and understaffed) and watching people walk in after me, and get taken before me, (again, understable if their condition was worse than mine, who knows) I finally get taken into the consultation room with a women who turned her name tag around on purpose (pretty sure her name was Patricia) gave me such a hard time with all of my answers to her questions, as if she didn't believe that I was sick...?. My boyfriend, who was in the room with me, was so confused as
to why she was talking to me the way that she was, for no apparent reason. I had a 103 fever and at that point made her aware that i was having trouble breathing, i have asthma. She proceeded to give me a hard time, gave me advil, and told me to go back to the waiting room. I was the only patient who was sent back to the waiting room that whole entire time that we were there. I understood that the hospital was busy last night, i asked her how long did she think it would be. She said i would have to wait for all of the people in the hallway to get a room its going to be a long time. I told her I didnt think i can wait much longer, i explained to her my condition again and that I will have to find another hospital at that point. After getting standoffish with me once again, she left the room and seconds later she bought me to an open room (which i was confused because she was giving me such a hard time and telling me it was going to be a very long wait.) Its just frustrating to think that, probably because I am younger, she thought that she could walk all over me, and if i didnt speak up for myself, I wouldve probably sat back out in that waiting room and watched people walk in the er and get rooms before me. When I got my room, i was super relieved to be away from that miserable witch in the front & like my previous visits, both my nurse and doctor who treated me last night, were amazing, super accomodating, and quick.
But due to the unnecessarily awful start to my visit, i will never return and I will be sharing this with everyone I know, so they can save themselves the stress.

Several visits over several years with different family members and the result is always the same... incompetent. Heard many stories of the same. Yes nurses are nice but overwhelmingly Dr.’s seem to be incompetent. This last visit was the final straw that made me write this review... wish it was appropriate to give specifics. Unless its a true emergency take a ride to a reputable hospital. There are reasons there are so many one star reviews
