Yampa Valley Medical Center is a world-class hospital in a small mountain town. They've helped my family with a variety of injuries over the years and have saved not one but two of our lives. Ten or twelve years ago they saved my dad's life after he experienced heart failure on hole 13 at Rollingstone Ranch. We thought we had lost him. Then, this summer, my 19-year-old son collapsed downtown and we rushed him to the ER, where, after a few tests, they determined his spleen had ruptured. Blood pressure dropping precipitously, bleeding internally, retching, confused and scared, my son was soon wheeled into surgery for an emergency post-midnight splenectomy. Another life saved. How they gathered an amazing team of doctors and nurses so quickly and efficiently I'll never know. From ER check-in through diagnosis through surgery and three days of recovery, EVERY employee at Yampa Valley Medical Center from orderly through surgeon was the bomb. The nurses especially were so competent and kind--they deeply care about human life and are passionate about what they do. Special shout outs to Christa, Nicole, Cassie, Kevin, Dr. Belshaw, Dr. Levin, Dr. Green, Dr. Keller, Dawn, Kim, and Margot. (There were so many--I hope I didn't miss anyone--especially the rockin', no-nonsense ER nurse who caught my son as he collapsed again at the ER entrance.) This well-run hospital and the dedicated people who work there both humble me and inspire profound gratitude. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about them. Thank you!
