I am sharing what happened with my dad in 2016. My family was not up to following up with the hospital at the time, but I believe poor care resulted in my Dad's subsequent death, February 16, 2016. Dad was 90 yrs old. He slipped, fell and broke his hip. Went to Banner Desert ER. While in ER many tests were run showing broken hip and cracked skull. My dad lay flat on his back in emergency room for 8 hours before an inpatient bed in ICU was available. Nursing care seemed good but in retrospect , due to his age and hip break, he should have had the special mattress to prevent bed sores. He developed bed sores on his posterior. Care in ICU before and after surgery was excellent. Proper mattress for sores was provided.
Switched to a regular ward , I told nurse dad developed sores. She said he must have had them before he came in. I told her I just helped him with a shower the day before he fell and he had no sores. The room was not kept clean swept and picked up. I went around picking up bandage wrappers etc. Next day Dad was transported to a rehab facility. He stayed there for 4 days, was in bad pain from sores, could not do pt. Sent home on hospice to die a week later.
Our family feels that 8 hours on his back in the ER, producing sores on his elderly thin skin, hurried his demise.
I just gave a nurse here a review to give to his boss, its not every day that you get a nurse that will not only be as polite as possible to a patient but to the significant other of the patient. I understand how hard it can be to deal with people who are sick or upset and Kevin S. You did an amazing job tonight and you are an exceptional example of what type of people should be in your line of work. I am grateful he was here to assist my husband. Now normally I don't reccomend this place because of the wait time, I understand it's an emergency room but sometimes we have to realize we chose to come to this hospital for a particular reason, my main reasons for choosing this place is because other hospitals seem to just want to rush you out so you have to understand they have a long wait time because they are truly trying to find out an answer. People like Kevin S. Make it worth the wait. I just can't get over it. When I was going over my husband's history he didn't shut me out he didn't act like I didn't know what I was talking about instead asked questions like "what do they normally do to get it taken care of"? I couldn't believe it a nurse was going to listen to what I was telling him and he did everything and more to get my husband under control and he did get my husband stable. He even noticed that my husband has anxiety without even probing for questions and I told him he was the first to ever ask that question and give my husband advice on how to breathe... Kevin you said this was nothing that no one else has asked about it; I beg to differ my friend you were amazing, outstanding, superior one of the best nurses I have ever met and all I can say is Thank you form the bottom of my heart.
This hospital & I have had many issues. Their ER tends to make unfair assumptions about people & treat them accordingly. They send people home w out doing anything to help them & then get angry when you come back when the issue continues to get worse. At one point, I had to have surgery after multiple visits concerning an issue. The surgeon assigned by hospital then left remnants of bone in my spine. I'd visited her in her office multiple times were she wanted to blow it off as scar tissue (less than a full month post surgery). I knew this wasn't the case. I finally demanded a second opinion from a Nuerosurgeon outside the banner network & it took this new surgeon less than 24 hrs to figure out what the probably was. It required a second surgery which fixed the issue as well as it could. I have not & likely will never gain complete function in one leg due to the issue not being addressed in a timely manner. I was in a horrible situation because no other hospital or surgeon would help but instead refer me back to the original surgeon because they did not want to get mixed up in her mistakes or "step on her toes" - but she was too pompous to admit to her mistake & FIX it. There have been other issues that this hospital has dropped the ball on because they see me as a "frequent flyer". However, if they fixed issues as they should the first time around as opposed to sticking up for their doctors that do as little as possible to get by - they'd see less "frequent flyers". I'm changing my insurance SPECIFICALLY to keep from being tied to this hospital next year. It is important you trust your body. If you know something is wrong be sure to be your OWN ADVOCATE. Doctors can and ARE more often than you'd like to imagine wrong. There are a few good doctors here but they are few & far between.
Some of the staff were great, but there is a nurse on the ed kids unit that has no bed side manner. We have been here for over 8 hours and have not seen the last that does CPR(Social worker). I have been told different things by different staff. Absolutely ridiculous.
If I could give them a negative 0 I would this place has been absolutely a joke the nurses are great the doctors think they are movie stars we have seen my wife's doctor one time the whole time it was 5 min then he went on vacation they have refused to listen to my wife's complaint run away from this place as fast as you can one doctor tells you one thing the other one tells you something else's this is real guys I'm sitting in here right now with her
