feedback about Forbes Hospital
My father was getting intravenous antibiotic treatment. He is 96 and very thin yet was on a caloric restricted diet just because that was the usual protocol. We asked for a regular diet. Also we were told he could not walk around until cleared by PT although he walked into the hospital. We then realized it was really up to the family to walk with him.
You have good reviews and you get bad but this one is good. I have had chest pain and with 3 blood clotting disorders I rather be safe than sorry. Got in.. checked in and quickly got a room. For the first hour things went quick and I understand other urgent needs come first but then wait time dragged. The rn's and physician assistant took care of me well. The doctor seemed to be in a hurry and felt like I wasted his time but other than that it was a good experience and I'll be back
Went to the ER yesterday for my husband. The staff was disorganized and rude. It felt like us being there was an inconvenience for them. They gave my husband medication (the same kind he was already taking). It did not help. The discharged us. Today we went to West Penn ER, where a doctor saw my husband and actually treated his symptoms. Forbes doctor had prescribed medication my husband was already taking, West Penn determined he was allergic to the medication. If we hadn’t gone to West Penn my husband could have had a sever allergic reaction thanks to the Forbes doctors. I will be contacting the hospital administrator to report the doctor my husband saw.
DO NOT go to Forbes Hospital. I have been a long time patient of the UPMC team. Due to recent changes, I can no longer use their services. On 2/5, I was feeling extremely awful and I ended up going to Forbes as a precaution. I get there and was taken back immediately. The nurse asked what was wrong and I told him that I had a sore throat and that my body was aching. He said ok! We are going to get the doctor in here to see about getting you some fluids and something for the pain. The nurse collected a flu swab and then a strep throat swab. The doctor comes in asks me what's wrong, I reiterate what i told the nurse and he checks my heart, listens to my lungs, stomach and then looks at my throat and makes an obvious "Oh" sound because it looked bad. He tells me that I have the flu. I look at him in disbelief because I was vaccinated, as always, for the flu shot. He leaves and the nurse says that he is going to draw blood and get me some fluids. The nurse starts to prep me for an IV. He sticks the needle in and begins to move it in and out, multiple times. He tried to draw blood but not enough was coming out. He apologized and told me he would have to stick me again. This time he stick me closer to my wrist. Once the needle goes in, he begins to move it in and out but this time he is switching the needle to the left and right of my arm. I'm in tears at this point and he continues to do the something and finally I had enough. That is when he says "I won't torture you any more. I'm going to get someone else to stick you." An older gentleman comes and gets the needle in on the first try. I start my fluids and I am given Zofran and Toradol. Finally, the results are back and I DO NOT have the flu but, I have a "virus".The doctor didn't even come in and tell me himself. They decided that, that was enough and discharge me with information on Viral illness. I ask the nurse why did you take my blood if you weren't going to test it? He says we have to draw a rainbow. Ok, so why aren't you testing the strep swab you collected? He says, first of all you don't have strep, if you did you would have white spots all over your throat and finally the doctor. Didn't see the need to order it. I couldn't believe what this man was telling me. I asked if I could have an excuse for work and some anti nausea meds. I got that and left. I went home. I was still in pain and I had a bruise on my arm. Plus, something just didn't sit well with this diagnosis so, instead of waiting two days for a followup appointment, I made one for the following morning. I get to the office, I tell them that my throat is killing me and that my body was aching. The doctor runs a rapid strep on me and guess what, it was positive! Thank God I had the foresight to see another, and this time, competent doctor who actually took the time to listen to me and treat me. I started my antibiotics that morning and started feeling better that evening. Anyone who lives in East Pittsburgh, DO NOT go to Forbes Hospital. They Don't care about you. I'm sorry this is such a long post and I tried to shorten it as much as I could but go somewhere else if you can. Once I felt better and returned to work, I told a lady about my experience there and she immediately said "don't ever go to that hospital, they will kill you." Be careful everyone!
They refused to give me a CD of my CT scan telling me my Dr could view it online. I waited all this time and they were wrong. They didn't even send my Dr the results. Really are u that lazy¡
