This is my second experience in Jersey City Medical Center. Our newborn (5 days old) was admitted by a friendly staff and was treated appropriately. My issue is the amount of time it takes this hospital to treat patients and efficiently get them on their way. We waited for six hours from the time we were told our son was to be discharged until the time we left the building (and the nurses didn't keep us apprised on any of this).
My last experience was an ER experience for myself. I was admitted for colitis, which was extremely painful. While I sat in the ER, I noticed people were in the ER being treated for common colds. Seriously, is this a primary care provider for most folks? Is this where tax payer money is going? It took the hospital 36 hours to move me from the ER to a proper room.
I implore anyone who is looking at hospitals to avoid this hospital at all costs. It may be in downtown Jersey City and convenient, but do yourself (or your loved one) a favor and find an alternative.
Our boy was born at Carepoint Christ hospital in Jersey City as well and everything was relatively seamless (too bad they don't have a pediatrics unit).
Came to the emergency room 4 times in 2 weeks for initial emergency and follow up. Every time I was seen the doctors didn’t know what was going on (never read my file) and prolonged the wait. When the doctors would come back, they each told me something different. I still don’t fully know what’s on. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE EVEN IF ITS AN EMERGENCY. You’ll have better chances risking your life to go somewhere else. I called the patient advocacy number and left a voicemail for assistance and still haven’t heard back. I tried to sign up online to review my file but my access key is not on ANY of my paperwork and calling for assistance is unless. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE.
I'll give it 1 star cause they took care of me but time I got there was 6pm got out 4am in the morning ...JC med center was never like this since they renovated there service is no good never again will I go there the worst experience ever.. they also had me waiting in the waiting area and called me for ex ray and then had waiting in waiting area again to call me again for blood sugar test and waited in the waiting area again talk about there aren't any beds available but we clearly can see through the door that there beds available ...my son was born here great memories but I will leave it there
Incompetent Billing Department:
1) We went to the ER last July and provided all the necessary updated insurance information. We received a bill and it looked like they billed our old insurance company.
2) Upon calling the Billing Department, we were instructed to do the leg work ourselves to obtain the PO Box of our insurance company's claims address. It seemed like they don't want to do that work. We had to obtain the information ourselves.
3) We've provided them the claims address provided by the insurance company on a prior claim and they kept insisting it was wrong. They also insisted that the member ID which we read verbatim from the card was also incorrect. Note that we've been using the same insurance without any hiccups with our doctors in New York City and we only had to go to Jersey City Medical Emergency out of necessity. We've been avoiding this type of incompetence.
Who are these people hiring?
This hospital is much better than Christ Hospital. Everybody i know that has went into their for medical reasons have died. If you enter Christ Hospital for deadly medical reasons, just know you aren't coming out alive. Everybody i know that has went to Medical Center for deadly medical reasons have gotten out feeling a bit better. This hospital is a great hospital.
