Son was 1.5 weeks old, and clearly very sick. Brought him to ER, told doctor he has been unusually lethargic, having trouble breathing, etc. I told him, “he is not acting like himself.” Son hadn’t eaten in over 24 hours. Doctor laughed in my face, said, “He is 1.5 weeks old, you hardly know him.” He sent us home. We weren’t in his office even an hour. No tests were run, nothing. I knew something was wrong so we brought our 1.5 week old to Bell Hospital’s emergency room in Ishpeming where they ran excessive testing, chest x rays, everything. Turns out my son had RSV and pneumonia! He almost died! He had to be flown to the Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent’s in Green Bay, Wisconsin. All could have been avoided if ER Doctor at MGH would have run testing!!! It should be standard protocol on newborns!!!!!!!!!!!! St. Vincent’s told us 8 other newborns has been seen from the Upper Peninsula in just 2 months who had RSV and pneumonia. They said MGH is irresponsible and I agree!!!!!!!!!!! My son almost died because the ER doctor was too lazy to run a couple tests. What is the matter with you people? You also send a pregnant mother home and she died minutes later, ALL COULD BE AVOIDED IF YOU JUST RUN SOME TESTS. My advice, PUSH FOR TESTING. ALWAYS PUSH FOR TESTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These people don’t want to do their jobs. PUSH PUSH PUSH. Do not leave until you get tests done!!! ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF, if you don’t, you might be sent home to die.
