feedback about Sebastian River Medical Center
As a retired nurse, I was very pleased with the nursing care I received from 10/22-24/18. Beginning with Karen in the emergency room, to the floor nurses Carole , Tracy and Tamara, all were professional and compassionate. The facility was very clean and kept tidy. The Food Service people were attentive and it was not their fault that my appetite was so poor. Thank you to all who made my pain and illness easier to bear.
The nursing staff was just horrible, no compassion what so ever, they were gossiping ,very very slow to come with the medicine that my wife was waiting for to feel better. Wile a nurse was in the room attending to my wife another nurse came in took her to the side to talk more gossip right in front of us. Also the paramedic that came into the room had the personality of a bucket of hair. Although the doctor was very, very good.
I had the most amazing nurses and doctors during my visit at Sebastian medical center
The doctors and nurses on my visit were great. The only complaint I have is the condition and cleanliness of the ER department. There was trash from previous patient visits on the floors and the restroom was dirty! In a facility where germs should be of high concern, it would have been reassuring to see some evidence of housecleaning coming through on regular sweeps and keeping up. Maybe my bill will show a deduction for lack of sanitary conditions?!?
On Aug.8, 2018 during prep for outpatient shoulder rotor kuff surgery, the anesthesiologist punctured my chest cavity and collapsed my right lung. I immediately couldn't breath and I either passed out or was knocked out. I woke up in ICU with a large chest tube surgically coming out of the right side of my chest, a urinary catheter, oxygen in my nose and numerous electrodes on my chest. I was in ICU six days and a regular room for one day, all for what was suppose to be an outpatient procedure. The anesthesiologist didn't follow protocol for nerve block procedure (ie. ultrasound-guided needle insertion). He walked in, told me what he was going to do, felt a spot next to my collar bone and said we'll go in here. The next thing I knew I couldn't breath. No one explained why I woke up in ICU or what had happened. Rotten communication and no contact from the facility since their major screw-up! With the lack of caring and a week of my life spent in the hospital, along with the $10,000 Medicare bill for a staff screw-up, I would definitely NOT recommend this facility! Also, at checkout, I had to draw attention to the fact I still had an IV catheter in my right forearm and asked if they were going to remove it, which was done. I later sent a letter requesting my medical records and received a letter from their records handler (STAT informatic solutions) stating "patient not found"! After an in-person visit to the hospital (incomplete records obtained) and two letters, I finally got my complete records.
