MedicalRecords.com was founded by Durjoy (Ace) Bhattacharjya after experiencing firsthand how difficult it is to get medical records transferred between providers. The platform now covers 4,500+ hospitals, 613 EMR systems, and all 50 states.
Ace started MedicalRecords.com after trying to get his own medical records transferred between providers. The process involved fax machines, hold music, conflicting instructions from different departments, and a fee that nobody could explain. HIPAA says you have a right to your records. The reality is that most hospitals make it unnecessarily difficult.
He built the first guides himself: step-by-step instructions with real phone numbers, real forms, and realistic timelines for specific hospitals. People found them, used them, and started asking for more. That was the signal that this needed to be a company, not a side project.
Today MedicalRecords.com covers 4,500+ hospitals, 613 EMR systems, all 50 state guides, and a growing library of source-linked health education. Ace is transparent about the business model: the company makes money through referral fees and lead generation. Editorial recommendations are never for sale. He considers that non-negotiable.
Ace runs a team of operators, engineers, and clinicians and holds them to a specific standard: did the patient actually get their records? Did the practice actually find a better EMR? If the answer is no, the content failed regardless of how much traffic it got.
He personally recruited Dr. George T. Mathew (MD, MBA, FACP) to lead the medical advisory board because he wanted a physician who would reject content, not rubber-stamp it. He built an editorial wall between business and content because most health websites quietly let advertisers influence what gets published. He considers that a credibility problem worth solving even when it costs revenue.
Ace's background spans software engineering, digital platforms, and regulated industries. That combination matters because building for patients requires understanding both the technology and the compliance reality it operates in. You cannot build a medical records platform if you only understand code. You need to understand HIPAA, institutional behavior, and what happens when a system fails someone who is already anxious about their health.
He advocates for HIPAA patient rights not as a policy abstraction but as something that should work in practice: when a patient walks into a hospital and asks for their records, they should get them without a runaround. Most of what MedicalRecords.com publishes exists because that is not yet the reality.
