Lavender & Wyatt Systems Inc (LWSI) was a healthcare software development company that specialized in electronic health record systems for behavioral health provider organizations. Founded in 1970 and headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, the company developed and supported Essentia, an enterprise-level EHR platform designed specifically for mental health, substance abuse treatment, developmental disabilities services, and other behavioral healthcare settings. The Essentia platform provided a comprehensive front-to-back-office solution encompassing clinical documentation, practice management, human services modules, claims management, revenue cycle management, and business intelligence analytics. With over 20 years of experience in behavioral healthcare information management by the mid-2000s, LWSI positioned itself as a specialized vendor serving community mental health centers, psychiatric hospitals, inpatient and residential facilities, and outpatient behavioral health clinics across the United States. The system was available in both on-premise installations within client IT infrastructure and as a hosted solution in LWSI's data center. Key differentiators included its behavioral health-specific workflows, DSM-5 and ICD-10 coding support, integration with developmental disabilities and substance abuse treatment protocols, and comprehensive financial management modules designed for value-based payment models. In October 2015, Lavender & Wyatt Systems was acquired by Netsmart Technologies, the leading provider of post-acute EHRs and technology for health and human services. Following the acquisition, LWSI's CEO Mickey Lavender joined Netsmart to continue development of Essentia solutions, and the Essentia general ledger modules were integrated into Netsmart's CareGuidance suite. The acquisition reflected broader market consolidation in behavioral health IT and provided LWSI clients access to Netsmart's larger connected network of health and human services providers, enhanced data center infrastructure, and expanded suite of care coordination tools. At the time of acquisition, LWSI had approximately 50 employees and served behavioral health agencies nationwide.
