Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto

I don’t think I have ever encountered such an awful hospital experience. Was there 5 days and begged for a bath and clean gown which I NEVER got! My bed was filthy and no one ever changed it, though I mentioned it several times. My insurance paid all but 500.00 and they certainly charged much more than they are worth. I did notice, as slow as they were admitting me and “taking care” of me on the floor, they spend no time hounding me for the balance on my account. But I digress... The nurses apparently did not know how to read my doctor’s orders and wouldn’t bring nausea medicine even though he had assured me he had ordered it. They discharged me in the middle of the night which I thought was rather strange. Oh, and before I was admitted, I also had a NINE hour wait in the ER! NINE hours while I was vomiting from a bowel obstruction... Terrible experience!!!

I live out of town my mom was hospitalized for some days she said the staff is so friendly and caring! Glad she's better

From being admitting to the E.R. and a then a week on the 9th floor I felt like I was their only patient. They have raised the bar for all other medical institutions. The staff is outstanding!

Went to the ER due to pain in my back that radiates around to my left front rib cage. In the ER x-ray was taken, Labs were drawn, and a CAT scan was done. I was giving one dose of morphine which I hated, it made me feel bad and it didn't last 15 minutes. In the ER the hospitalist was more concerned with a area they found in my right upper lung which I was already aware of and they were not concerned with the pain I was I was having. The hospitalist said that it was probably muscular. They wanted to admit me for observation and the hospitalist said that she would order Toradol, Tramadol and ibuprofen. I was moved to a room on the second floor for observation. I was there from around 6 that morning and at 5:30 that afternoon I had only received that one thing of morphine which didn't last it all I was still in pain and they said that they didn't have any orders for anything other than Tylenol so they gave me two Tylenol and they did give me a Flexeril. It didn't touch my pain. I kept telling them the hospitalist said that she was going to order the Toradol and tramadol they kept saying they didn't have any orders. They finally got an order for a Lortab which they gave me and I took. It didn't touch my pain they came back and we're going to give me to ibuprofen I looked at them like they were crazy. I argued with them and tell them what that hospitalist was going to order they left they came back a little while later with a Percocet. I took the Percocet and apparently it works because I finally went to sleep. They kept telling me that I was scheduled for a biopsy of the mass in my right lung. I told them I wasn't going to have them biopsy the mass in my right upper lung. They sent the oncologist in any way. I tell the oncologist why would I want to go down and have a biopsy of the area in my right lung when I was having all this pain that wasn't being addressed. Long story short, I was discharged the next morning per my request even though the hospital is acted like they were doing me the favor because they could no longer do anything for me because I refused the biopsy. I was thrilled with being discharged because I kept telling them the night before I wanted to be discharged you can discharge me right now they kept saying they didn't have anybody there discharge me which I know isn't true. I also had a lab tech come in to draw a PT INR I told her I said I am not on any blood thinners she said will the doctors ordered it I went ahead and let her draw it knowing that I should not be charged for this lab and trust me I'm going to let the business office know. I was still in pain after being discharged I went to the doctor the next day went into my doctor's office told them what my symptoms were as far as my pain and everything went in for even examining me she told me it sounds like shingles, raised my shirt up and looked, and said yep you have shingles. So tell me why all these doctors hospitalist or whatever you want to call them over there couldn't have diagnosed me with ? They were not even worried about why I was having such pain all they could concentrate on what is the mass in my lung. They have a patient's Bill of rights of which they do not follow There is no way I will ever step foot in Baptist DeSoto again.

I would like to say our experience yesterday, July 4 and today, July 5th was a surprise emergency room event. My husband experienced a sudden significant episode of memory loss. He was unable to recall his age, address, the year it was, the name of one our sons. We immediately came to the emergency room. I give high marks to everyone who attended him. The nurses and doctors were terrific. He was in the Observation Unit from 12:30 yesterday afternoon until 6:00 p.m. today. Everyone was helpful and though we would have rather not been there at all we are thankful for the great care he was given. Thank you so much!
