Best looking garden I've ever seen.

I did a year long internship here as an Environmental Studies degree student. For the entire year they vehemently opposed organic certification, citing it was "too expensive", but still opposed and rejected it even when I offered to pay for the certification with my own money. I was dismayed when they revealed they had accepted one or more financial checks directly from Monsanto, the makers of Glyphosate and Agent Orange. I was grossed out when they revealed a shed full of jugs of human urine and asked all of the volunteers to pee in jugs for them to use it on their crops. I expressed that I considered it gross and also raised concern about random pharmaceuticals from peoples' urine going on their crops. One of the main farm boys who founded the farm then got in my face aggressively asking me repeatedly "why is it gross?". I did not respond as the answer was self-evident. Then the manager Carrie who was my classmate attempted to sabotage my 4.0 gpa by giving me less than an A grade for my internship even though I met all their requirements and performed all duties voluntarily for an entire year when a normal internship only takes 3 months. Luckily the senior environmental scientist at Columbia College granted me the A grade anyway. Once I leaned about the urine saving I quit eating their produce. The tomatos sure were juicy... you don't get that flavor any other way. Don't get me started on the "humanure" operation the founder farm boys had going in the backyard of their house... their neighbors hated them. It's just another organization that can't stand on its own two feet and requires constant donations from people. Want my support? Go organic then. Oh wait, you literally can't... because it's not organic, primarily from human sewage sludge. I guess you found a way to make CoMo eat chit. Columbia center for urban Monsanto.

A great resource for the community. The staff and volunteers are incredibly helpful to people trying to learn more about gardening, urban chickens and sustainability. They have fantastic programs aimed at teaching refugees and low-income families how to raise produce so that they can have better access to fresh, healthful food. Much of the produce they grow on the farm is donated to the local food bank.
