I am a nurse. I know that not getting your pain medicine as quick as you would like or not getting taken back first from the waiting room does not make a poor emergency room.
however, what does make a poor emergency room this this place. Came early in the morning with a nearly empty waiting room and quiet ER once we got taken back. We got taken back quickly but it took over an hour for the doctor to finally come see the patient. Giving them the benefit of the doubt on that one. The room was dirty with noticeable debris & blood stains on the floor. The attached bathroom had used wash rags on the sink! Not even a quick cleaning could have been done of this room.
I brought my friend who was having a major productive cough and shortness of breath. The physician did not listen to her lungs and no nurse ever assessed her.
She also had a red spot with scabbing on her back that she feared was a bedsore. The doctor took a 2-second look at it. Said that it was "just redness and there was no skin breakdown" therefore it's "not a sore, nothing to be worried about." Um, ever heard of a stage I pressure ulcer? The kind that is just erythema and no breakdown? Apparently not.
Sigh.

If I could give 0 stars I would. My first experience here a few years ago, they told me that I didn't have a staff infection on my leg(even I knew it was staff). I had to go back a few days later because it got so bad. After they treated me, I sat in the room for another hour waiting for my discharge papers. I would've waited longer if I hadn't have gone to the desk to receive them myself. My next complaint is on behalf of a family member. They sent her home once with water on her lungs after her rib punctured her lungs. She told them she couldn't breathe, they sent her home anyway. She, too had to make another trip back to this hospital for the proper care. A different time they told the same family member that she had Hep C. She was put on medication for it. Years later, she went back to CVMC with stomach issues. They took her gallbladder out. Stomach pain and weight loss continued. She went to a different medical center to find out that she is actually Hep C negative and that her gallbladder wasn't to blame for stomach issues. It was stomach ulcers due to the Hep C medication. The same family member is now suffering from pancreatitis. They have sent her home 3 times now, each time a different Dr. has told her something different for her aftercare at home. One Dr gave threatening advice, telling her to eat, which sent her back to the hospital again, only this time to hear that she shouldn't have eaten anything. Be skeptical of their advice if you ever have to stop here.

Most of the nurses are awful. There snobby and have attitudes. This has to be the worst hospital ever. I even caught nurses eating out of patients plates before they get them .

I am writing this review from the waiting room of the Urgent Care in Sylacauga
I was in the Emergency Room this morning at 5:00 am with severe tooth and jaw pains
Saw the Doctor got a shot and a very small prescription for a very weak pain med
Was feeling much worse at 2:00 pm today (basically 6 hours later)

Went back to the emergency room and they turned me away ( I’m not a addict ) and have good insurance.
The reasons was they said I already had my prescription filled and I just needed to wait on my dentist to open on Monday
Well at this moment I’m at the Main Street Urgent Care , getting antibiotics and anti inflammatory meds
The main concern was getting my co-pay
They did get that right
