I gave birth at Grand Strand Hospital February 1st and stayed in for five days. I had an allergic reaction and plus my delivery did not go as expected. Overall the stay wasn’t that bad. I had two amazing nurses and was lucky enough to keep the same nurse at night. I wish I could remember their names. However, I had to switch nurses twice because there work ethnic was horrible. One nurse was really rude and the other one was too rough with my new born baby, which I did not appreciate. Also I am allergic to many foods that was not put in the charts for the cafeteria to be informed. On the other hand, the head nurse was able to handle everything and got everything straight. Don’t get me wrong I loved the nurses; except the two that I had to switch out. They were horrible!!!
UPDATE #1: After posting reviews on three sites, I finally got someone to respond. I was able to get in touch with Patient Relations and spoke to a very nice woman who listened to me, showed empathy, and is trying to help. Finally.
UPDATE #2: Well, unfortunately this has gone into the black hole again. Three days later and never received any follow up calls as promised. My mothers family is 8 hours away and we are very concerned. I just don't understand it. I have never had this experience with other hospitals.
I got there early as they asked me to I had appointment at 9'0 clock, I got there 8:25. I filled out some info and waited a few minutes and was taken back to change into a gown, and I waited there for them to call me, which was 9:50 AM. I waited till 10:15 and asked how much longer..girl said she would check. She said they were running late but not too much longer. I waited till 10:45 asked again how long, finally at 10:50 I was taken back. I asked the gal why it took so long, she said she had a light that flashes when someone is waiting it didn't flash. So I said way didn't you check for herself to see if anyone was waiting and she said the dumbest thing back to me, I shall quote her words " I should of done that " something should be done about that.
I had other things to do that day, it's not fair for someone to sit that long. Please do something about that.
I was a few weeks pregnant and suddenly I began bleeding and having severe cramps to the point I could barely walk. I had no choice but to go to this hospital because the 2 urgent care facilities near the resort my family and I stayed in could not take me (one does not do pregnancy care and the other did not have ultrasounds). The care I received at this hospital left a lot to be desired. I added a star for some of the staff who were actually nice but at the same time urgency is severely lacking here. We spent 6 hours at this hospital and 5 (or maybe more) of those 6 hours were spent waiting. At one point my mom had to get someone after we waited so long for a doctor to get back to us after the ultrasounds. During that whole time I was in so much pain and was not given anything to help relieve it. I was told I was miscarrying. I was sent on my way to pick up pain relievers and that was that. I can't help but feel we wasted time and money just for that. The hospital charges my insurance $7,000 and charges me $3,000 just for 2 ultrasounds, a urine test, and a blood test. I didn't get any results for these tests either. Also charged for emergency services??? My visit was not treated as an emergency! Ridiculous.
I went for a 3 D mammogram. Rose at the reception desk was lovely, knowledgeable and helpful! Appointment was on time and technician was considerate and knowledgeable.
