Staff are very friendly and professional. However, their business practices seem sketchy. Two examples: First, the emergency room physicians apparently do not work for the hospital, bill separately and may not participate in insurance plans. This can result in a huge bill. As a patient in the emergency room, one is not always able to check with insurance or interview or negotiate with emergency room physicians regarding their fee structure. It is a bit like being car jacked or robbed when most vulnerable. Second, on two separate occasions I was told that a separate procedure had an "estimated" amount. When I asked if that amount could be reduced, the business person stated on both occasions they could reduce the amount and documented that amount to be about $300 less than the original quote. When the bill arrived, that discount was not applied. When I contacted the central billing office I was told that it was only an estimate and while they saw it documented they would not be able to honor that quote. Moreover, I was told a supervisor would contact me in two days and that didn't occur. I ultimately called back, got cut off, called again and was told they could only reduce my bill by 20 percent. It just feels dishonest and I will not use that facility again despite the excellent medical personnel.
