I was hesitant to come to this ER after reading the reviews here. However, I did and I had a very positive experience (after some initial confusion about whether they could provide the procedure I needed AFTER admitting me). There was zero wait time and after being brought to a room treatment was started within minutes. The facilities were clean. My nurse was competent, experienced and kind. He took the time to explain everything he was doing. I was made comfortable while I waited for my procedure. My anesthesiologist was personable and kind. The nurses were great. Everyone was professional, experienced and kind. Overall, it was probably the best experience I've had in an ER.

Outpatient testing charges are OUTRAGEOUS! Daughter is VT student. Went to local MD who ordered blood tests and directed to the hospital for the tests. Order was for routine tests. She was diagnosed with Mono (very common for students). We were billed $3,000, with insurance discount it dropped to $2,100. I surveyed other local options, yes it was a pain. Reasonable would have been $6-700. Will avoid the hospital and affiliated MD's.

From the Virginia Tech Parents FB page 2-21-19 My daughter was in terrible pain on Tuesday late afternoon and went to LewisGale Hospital. Around 8pm, it was determined that she needed an emergency appendectomy. We live 3 hours away, but the doctors did not want to wait and we arrived as she was returning to her room after post-op. The doctors/nurses/ER staff took such good care of her in our stead. They kept us well-informed and a few of the nurses really treated her as if she was their own daughter. As heartbreaking as it was knowing she was by herself - and we couldn't get there right away - I felt much relief when I arrived at the hospital seeing how wonderful her care was there. So rest assured parents, these nurses and doctors are used to this and they are prepared and ready to take of our children

I came in from bleeding I could not stop myself due to stitches that failed. The bleeding stopped as I waited for an hour to see someone. Even though I didn't have any procedures performed that didn't stop the hospital from fleecing me for thousands of dollars. No problems with the Staff or Dr, they were all business which is what I expect in this environment. Dr's bill was reasonable.

LewisGale, while in-network with Anthem, uses out-of-network ER doctors. I visited the ER for a kidney stone. While there I saw a physician assistant for about 5 minutes. As it turns out they were from a contracted firm, Wildwood Emergency Group, who conviently happens to be out of network. I received a bill from Wildwood for $2128 for their doctors services, a ridiculously amount for a 5 minute visit, which Anthem paid $198, a more reasonable price. Because they remain out of network I am responsible for the balance. Do not go to LewisGale unless you know for sure who will be seeing you. Making sure they are in network. In the NRV, we have options when it comes to hospitals. Why they allow this shady practice in their hospital is beyond me. I and many others will never be going to another LewisGale hospital again.
