I am absolutely disgusted with how my experience went tonight. I will start with Friday the 7th, I had my first leep procedure done with a different place in cedar rapids and was having the normal cramping complaints afterwards and into today, while at my appointment yesterday for my leep procedure my blood pressure was 171/90 and I'm on high blood pressure medication. I made an appointment with my PCP for this morning Sat December 8th 2018 regarding my blood pressure issues. Now also in the last week I slowly weaned myself off my cymbalta because it has caused severe insomnia the last 3 months so I've been experiencing antidepressant/anxiety medication withdrawal side effects. So today my PCP replaces my Xanax with ativan (which I've never taken) and prescribes me welbutrin, so basically had a little mental health check today which was much needed as I'm a single mom in nursing school with holidays fastly approaching. I take the ativan and a few hours later went to a restaurant and had some ribs and an angry orchard beer. Immediately after dinner something felt very wrong, all of a sudden I was extremely hot and sweating and felt extremely light-headed and instantly started panicking. I've had anxiety for 6/7 years but never a panic attack just an FYI so I tell my boyfriend who was driving us back to Marengo and he knew something wasn't right already as I wasn't making any sense when I was talking and seemed confused. He calls my mom who says to bring me to marengo hospital which is where we went. At this point I believe I was in the midst of a severe panic attack along with experiencing severe adverse side effects of the ativan. Fun times.jk. I wasn't entirely sure where I was, how I got there or WTH was wrong with me and I was definitely scared. My boyfriend checked me in thankfully and explained to them that I have issues with high blood pressure and that I just had a leep procedure yesterday and that I had just started a new medication (ativan) today. So they get me to a room and take my vitals and don't seem very concerned but I was just waiting very impatiently to see the Dr so I could get relief and answers. Finally the physician comes into my room and asks if the lights were too bright and I say yes. He says what's wrong. I say I don't know, I don't feel right, something is wrong. My boyfriend brings up the high blood pressure issue and the physician says oh well her blood pressure is fine right now so I ask what was it at? He replies 145/98 or something around that and I laugh a little (I'm not sure why) and I said that's not normal or fine, I'm a nursing student. This unprofessional human being who should have no business in the medical field replies back with " I'm not going to play these games with you. What do you want" I was already experiencing many different medical issues so as anyone with a brain can imagine, I called him out and raised a fuss and left. I will most definitely be filing a complete complaint and have my instructors help me so it can be used as a learning experience for future nurses of how not to act. Very sad how long this man went to school and lacks two of the basic fundamentals of his job...compassion and common sense. Based off some other reviews it appears Marengo hospital needs to do a training refresher on bedside manner's because if I had the energy to drive out to St Luke's or mercy and had the proper care and had been labeled as adverse medication effects or severe panic attack and something had happened en route there most definitely would've been a huge lawsuit!
