Stayed in room 515 on 2/5/19. I don't know why the low reviews. Every single person I interacted with was amazing. Pleasant, cheerful, patient, kind, caring, and helpful. I wish I could remember all their names but Dr Hahn, Nurse Joan, Bonnie, Leticia/Jackie, Melanie, Cathy, Dr Gomez, Scott in the ER, and everyone else was awesome. Will always choose this hospital over the one in Mt Airy.

The worst ER experience I have ever had! I went after pulling a muscle in my back, couldn’t walk and I had excruciating pain. I knew the wait would be long and I realize there is an order of importance, however i feel like some that came in after me and were seen before me were obviously not dire situations....I waited 2.5 hours and then they called me back to a bed that was at the entrance (it wasn’t a room, just a bed) because they didn’t have a room) I could see everyone coming in the doors off of the ambulance (some were bloody and handcuffed) and everyone could see me....in pain and crying (I felt so embarrassed) people were staring at me as I was screaming in pain. I waited there for another 2 hours before I ever got any pain medication.....they lost my urine sample and I had to give them another one which my husband had to pretty much carry me to the bathroom....they decided to keep me overnight since I couldn’t walk on my own.....when I was moved to the hospital floor (not ER) everything was so much better, the staff and treatment there was excellent, just not enough to make up for everything I had already been through .....definitely a nightmare!

Late 90s treated my Grandmother with serious infection and MS like she was nothing.

Mid 2000’s treated friends father with serious deadly infection like he was nothing and told him to go to another hospital, made wife drive him 2 hours away.

Local man who had been missed treated by same hospital told me he woud ‘rather die on his way to Eden North Carolina, than set foot in that hospital!’

Late 2000’s treat sick Grandad like he was nothing.

20teens treat neighbors dying husband in the most horrible way imagined let him die of cancer in pain with little to no help.

This week neighbor with infection, nausea, and pain gets discharged in the middle of night with no ride, still sick, out of it, and this place leaves her alone in the doorway.

Never go here, stay away from here, this is only a few of the horrors I’ve seen in years of living here.
Go to Eden, Roanoke, Danville, or Radford but steer clear of this place! :(

Let me begin by saying, I am not one to bash a hospital for the service. One thing I can say about this hospital in particular, it was awful in every way. I literally met ONE person who was nice throughtout the whole ordeal that brought me to this hospital. My husband is a truck driver who gets the pleasure of traveling.  Monday night he arrived at a hotel in Martinsville VA and noticed his abdomen was cramping really bad. He went to bed thinking that the pain would just work itself out. However Tuesday around 1:30 AM, I received a call that he was going to go to the closest ER because his symptoms all matched appendicitis. Thankfully I was only 2 hours away. He had sit me a screenshot of the google reviews on this hospital and I jokingly said, it cannot be that bad. I WAS SO WRONG. We received the worst service from the ER all the way until we left. I wish more than anything at this point that we would have known from the beginning what the pain was so we could have got him back to Wilkes County, NC. People here might make jokes on our hospital being bad but I have never received service as horrible as what we received at Sovah Regional Medical Center. When I arrived at 8:30 - 9 AM my husband was sitting in a basically empty ER (I know this because I got lost and found a completely empty section). When I walked in he told me that he hadn’t seen anyone in HOURS, he was honestly thinking that they had pulled the curtain and forgot him. We sat there for a bit and I could see out past the curtain a bit, figured out why no one had visited his room because they were all gathered around a computer on social media and just laughing and cutting up. Finally 2 nurses came into the room (2 b.c one was training) and explained they were going to take him to the OR. They even seemed shocked that my husband was just sitting there without a blanket or anything. After surgery they took my husband to a room, from that time on I literally seen one doctor (who couldn’t speak English) in the time I was there. If you wanted a nurse or even a CNA, wasn’t happening in a timely manner. Twice we hit the call button only for them to turn it off, wait 5-8 minutes THEN make their way into the room. My sister is a nurse at our local hospital and just telling her of the horrible service we received, she was shocked. She spent the whole month of January 2019 in Brenners Children in Winston Salem NC with her son. When I visited them there I was always blown out of the water by how caring the nurses and doctors were. We didn’t expect a lot, honestly my husband and I are quiet people who never once would have made their job any harder than it had or needed to be. However, being in the healthcare industry shouldn’t just be a JOB, it’s a calling. The people that I encountered at Sovah Regional Medical facility were lacking that. I’m sure some people there wanted to be there and loved their job but sadly I didn’t encounter those people. I wish I had a different story to tell. Weeks later I’m working with Aflac to file a claim for this and Sovah is telling AFLAC they can submit their request but it will take up to 15 days. Fine, I get that. The AFLAC representative I’m dealing with reached out to Sovah to get an update, you know 8 days into that 15 day wait time. AFLAC says that no one will return their call about this request. In the end, I know this review will mean nothing to most people but if you have an option to go to a different hospital, do so. When you have to be in the hospital the last thing you want to be worried about is the service you receive. Everyone knows health care is expensive, I get that but again I expect WAY more than what we received. Again being in the healthcare industry is NOT just a job. Sadly, the people we encountered there view it as a job, nothing else.
