I think this hospital doesnt receive quite the rating it deserves from people. This place isn't by any means perfect, and there is room for improvement just like anywhere else. However, I've been overall satisfied with my care here. I have cancer and have been coming here since January 2018. Since then I've had several surgeries with several hospital stays. I've been generally satisfied with my care, the nurses have been amazing, my doctor and nurses at the cancer center are knowledgeable, experienced and compassionate, my needs have so far always been tended to and met, and my concerns have always been taken serious. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is, there is definitely a problem with the staff in the financial department. So far everyone I've spoken to there, with the exception of one person, has always been rude, snippy and even disrespectful at times. That is unacceptable and needs to be improved. The staff in the financial department could truly benefit from a training on how to interact with patients in a professional and courteous manner.
This hospital is no St. Barnabas Clara mass but it'll do. At least its way better than UMD, east orange general, and St. Michael's. I can personally say they saved my life when others misdiagnosed me. But they can work more on their customer service skills or stop hiring ignorant individuals.
I had surgery here 2 days as go. I gave this review 4 stars instead of 5 only because when I was in the recovery room I was informed that I wasn't getting a room upstairs, as it was given away, which I was not happy about since I would have to stay in recovery overnight. I want to give a HUGE shout out to the nurses who took care of me in the recovery room! They went above and beyond to make an uncomfortable situation as tolerable as possible! Danny was wonderful! He got me into a private recovery room, got me a more comfortable bed so I wouldn't have to sleep on a stretcher, brought me snacks, drinks blankets, and checked on me a lot to make sure I was okay. He even stayed past 11:00 p.m. after a very long shift to make sure that I was settled in for the night, and checked on me first thing the next morning when he came in for his next shift, even though he wasn't assigned to me the next day. My overnight nurse, Carol, and my morning nurse Rosemary were wonderful as well! They did everything they could to make me comfortable. Thank you!
This review is only aimed at my experience simply trying to pay my hospital bill. It has been a nightmare trying to zero out my balance, I have been told something different by every person I have talked to, and I don't know what else to do than escalate the issue with legal action. As someone who works in healthcare, it has been an extremely humbling experience to be on the other side of such poor customer service.
I am adding an addendum in response to the below comment: Yes, I have contacted the patient experience department, and per their instruction have left a message with the assistant vice president of billing. She reached out to me yesterday and rudely told me that she didn't know the details of my situation and wouldn't be able to help me until "maybe tomorrow." It's nearing the end of the day, and I still haven't heard from her. I have zero confidence she is willing or able to help resolve my situation.
I recently had my surgery in this hospital and I was provided excellent care from the surgeon and nursing staff in pre and post unit and the operating room staff. The nurses and the anesthesiologists were very professional, exceeded my expectations. The bathrooms in the recovery room are very clean and well maintained. My surgery was done in a timely fashion. To top it all, there was the free service car who brought me from my house to the hospital and back to my house after surgery. The hospital made it so convenient , great help for patients.
