feedback about Oak Hill Hospital
Currently at Oak Hill...came in with chest pains at 10am...it is 6pm and I am on a bed in the hallway of the ER....no water or food....no real explanation for my chest pains and still having them...apparently I have been admitted but there is no place to put me....I have a heart monitor on but the leads came off and it was an hour before the people monitoring noticed and fixed them.
It is now almost 11 and I am still in a hallway in the emergency room...still have chest pains. A nurse finally told me they didnt have any beds on the floor for heart patients and I couldn't go to another room while I was being monitored. I was finally offered food and water since my last post. I guess an act of kindness...to be clear the employees are very nice.
I was moved from the hallway to a ER exam room about 2AM...then moved to another exam room in ER a few hours later...I finally got sent to a room about 28 or so hours after arriving at the ER.....
Once in a room...the attention is unreal.....the room is great and I couldn't have asked for anything more.....I have taken a lot of tests and the people could not have been better.
The Manager of the Emergency Department did come to see me in my room and explained a lot to me about what was going on. I was able to understand some of the things that were going on and what the hospital was doing to overcome the overcrowding. He said ER was built to handle 29 patients but have as many as 60 to 80. I passed by a hospital myself to get here because the heart department was good.
He did agree that communication, especially with the heart patients is critical to let them know what is going on and why they can not go to a room yet. I kept seeing patients heading to a room that had arrived many hours after I had.
I was extremely frustrated during my time in ER but I do know now they were doing everything they could and they are looking at what they can do to improve things until their new addition is built.
I did not like the ER experience but I would come back if I need to.
I'll never use this hospital again. Way over priced. My son had a motorcycle accident and they charged for CtScan and staples in his head $72,000.00. My co pay is only $500 so my health insurance isn't paying anything else. He spent 2 hours in the ER and then sent to a trauma center. Trauma center with surgery and 2 ct scans and a 2 day hospital stay was only $61,000.00! I want an itemized report from Oak Hill! I should only have to pay $500 co pay!
I had been walking around the hospital, lost, looking for my doctors suite. While there I was genuinely impressed at the friendly and helpful staff. The maternity was warm and inviting, the ER was packed but being managed extremely well and the general hospital was spotless! Thought if I ever needed a hospital this would be my first choice. I hate hospitals and for me to go into an ER it has to be a serious emergency.
Unfortunately, I had a serious eye emergency on a Saturday. After calling every eye doctor within 30 miles, finding none available, I called Oak Hill. I first spoke with the ER department who directed me to the nurse line. The nurse took my information and had me hold while she obtained a triage nurse. After they had all my symptoms they felt this could be a very serious eye condition and immediately advised me to come into the ER where they could properly diagnose my condition.
Upon entering the ER I checked in and wondered how they knew my DOB since I never gave it to anyone and I was never at this hospital before. The registration lady, who came to my room, mentioned all the HCA hospitals and I had been in the Brandon hospital some 18 years ago and they still had my information.
The ER staff was polite, helpful and caring. They performed many basic and some advanced tests. The ER doctor was excellent. She spoke with me and her concern was the same as mine being a possible detached retina. She performed a thorough ultrasound of my eye and felt very confident I did not have any retina issues but rather had vitreous detachment which was causing the issues I had.
I was extremely pleased with my overall experience and would go to this hospital again.
As instructed on Monday I followed up with an excellent eye doctor at St Luke’s who, after a thorough eye exam, agreed with the ER doctor’s diagonis of a vitreous detachment.
I was born in Oak hill hospital in 1999. I would whatever distance Just to go to this hospital because I always though of it as the best in the area. Until recently at the end of June, my grandfather came in because of a pain in his side that he’s had for a while and he was a little yellow. He was fine and talkative and didn’t have much of a problem while he was there and everything. Until he had an endoscopy done, the went down his throat to see if they can see what is going on with his pancreas, gallbladder, etc. and the doctor did it 8 times because he thought it was cancer but every time he was told it wasn’t. There was some blockage tho which caused the yellowness, they put a tube in the gallbladder to get past the blockage and then when he came out he seemed much different. Constantly yelling about pain and coded 3 times all in the same day. Nobody would tell us what was happening. Then he coded one more time, I demanded to know what was happening and they said he was bleeding internally. How would that happen? From the damn tube! I offered to give my blood because we are the same blood type. They did nothing. They killed him. I am so sickened by this hospital. I want to go after them but I can’t afford a lawyer and I don’t know if it’s too late. Plus it wouldn’t bring him back. But I will not ever go to this hospital again and I will tell all friends and family the same.
Do not use Oak Hill Hospital. The ER is way overpriced. Diagnosed with fractured shoulder. Had 3 xrays and 1 MRI and injection for pain. Was in and out the same day followed by a bill of $71,000. Wow! How can I even give this hospital 1 star
