Was a Scripps patient for 35 years, all of them at the Torrey pines campus, until last year that is. Had outpatient surgery for kidney stone on mid September of 2017. It was the most painful and awful experience of my life, b and I was left sorely disappointed with the post surgery care and attention to basic patient education and care. I felt like I was a head of Sheep constantly rushed through the system. Yet all this did not prepare me for the worst that Scripps had to dish out: "billing". Not only was I billed an outrageous amount for this outpatient procedure ($70,000 pre insurance; $7,000 out of pocket), but one year past surgery, I continue to receive bills from Scripps, a total of 4 bills amounting to another $1,000 in probably illegitimate fees. As of Jan 2017 I went to Sharp Rees Steely, and not only are their doctors better, but they actually spend time with you and their billing is fair and timely. My sincere advice to you, AVOID SCRIPPS AND THEIR AWFUL AND THIEVING BILLING DEPARTMENT. I STAND 100 PCT behind this advice.

Horrible experience!! The billing dept and charging process is extremely bureaucratic: they posted charge on me after the insurance company refused to cover one procedure, despite the same procedure (same procedure code but different diagnosis code) by another doctor was fully covered. So it sounds like an insurance problem, right? After many many rounds of calls between me and the insurance company, doctor's (Francis Mah) office, and bill dept, none of them wanted to call the others directly. They are expect me to call the other and push them to call back!!! Even though finally the insurer agreed it should be covered, the billing dept still wants me to push the insurer to call (which they refused) in order to re-post charge against the insurance! Otherwise it is like my debt to the hospital snd collectors will be summoned!

It doesn’t get much better than this folks. Outstanding service. Brought my boyfriend in to 24 hour urgent care (Scripps Urgent Care La Jolla), because of severe abdominal pain. No wait, fast service, plush surroundings, competent nurses and doctors. Ended up being appendicitis so they took us upstairs to Scripps Green Hospital and admitted him. His pain is under control enough that he is sleeping until his surgery time. The only annoying thing is that each person you interact with, (front desk, then nurse, then doctor), each one asks if you are allergic and what medications. It’s like...communicate with each other already! Lol. But I’m sure they are just asking so that they get it right and don’t give you something that isn’t good for you.

Anyway, he was cold after they gave him pain medication, and they literally pulled out the softest most comfortable blankets ...and get this...they were kept on a friggen blanket warming oven!! It’s like fresh laundry from the dryer, straight on your body. Essential oils in the room too. Nice big private suite. Incredible service from everyone you interact with. Thoroughness in their explanations..from parking, to food, to after care medication being delivered to the suite before we leave. It’s like being at a grand hotel but with doctors.

While working in my yard I fell and blew out a disk. Three months later, when the pain was absolutely unbearable, I finally decided to be seen by a doctor. One week to the day of seeing Dr. Eastlack I was in surgery. Everyone involved in my stay was caring, kind and helpful. Any anxiety I may have had was alleviated by the sight of a cross on my nurse, Kelley. I knew I had at least one christian looking after me. My anesthesiologist put me to sleep so sweetly, and I awoke with no complications. Dr. Eastlack had me in surgery more than double the time anticipated, since my disk was very swollen from my delay in getting help. The pain is gone, and I am recovering nicely. The hospital was clean and the staff were great. Thank you for everything done.

The incompetence is astounding for all but a few really good professional doctors and caring nurses. Other than a select few, some nurses act like you are an inconvenience to them and are above it all. Why get a job in healthcare if you care nothing for the patience?

Food orders are messed up even when ordered before the deadline time and the option to let the patient starve shouldn't be an option at all. Thankfully, a kind nurse was able to remedy the situation. Would not have my loved ones or me admitted here if given the opportunity unless certain nurses and doctors are available for aide.
