SMC REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER IN OSCEOLA ARKANSAS DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS OR THEIR PATIENT'S HIPPA RIGHTS!
I became aware that my HIPPA rights had been violated on June 19th by a nurse at this hospital.
As soon as I became aware, I started attempting to contact the hospital.
I was given several numbers to call, left several voice mails and was dismissed as if my rights were not important through out the day.
Finally, after many unanswered calls and a blank trip to the hospital, I finally recieved a call back from someone.
I was told to come to the hospital the next day with proof my rights had been violated.
The next day I showed up, proof in hand and we proceeded to file a complaint on the nurse.
Before leaving, since this was serious and I was going to want to stay informed, I asked about how long the HIPPA investigation would last. I was told that with my detailed statement and hard proof, it should take about a week and a half.
A week passed and I had heard that the nurse that accessed my information was still working and having access to other patient's records.
This confused me beyond measure. How could a nurse that purposely broke a "very important" law still have the access to potentially do the same thing to someone else!?!?
So, I called and left voice mails explaining that I had a few questions and would appreciate a call back.
Towards the end of the work day, I recieved a call back from the lady in HR as well as the higher ups.
The call really didn't accomplish much. They informed me she didnt currently have access to MY files.
(Not really sure what keeping her out of MY files did for the other patients she could have done the same thing too, but alright. )
I then waited out the week and a half, allowing them to do their job without my interruptions.
Once the time frame had passed, I began calling for an update.
I have called constantly since then with no return to any of my calls.
Today makes the 21st day since I have lauched my complaint and I know absolutely nothing about what it going on other than what I've found out for myself.
The nurse's license are still active, I know from looking online but that's all I know.
Not only did this nurse disclose my personal and private medical information with malicious intent for her own personal gain..
She did so, after stating herself that she knew she could lose her job for it.
She went against the nightingale pledge that she took upon becoming a nurse..
And She went against the best interest of a patient by disclosing my information..
To my knowledge she is still working as a nurse..
This totally shocks me considering she did this to one patient..
Has said herself that she knew what she was doing..
And has every ability to do it to someone else!
The fact that I can call about this matter time and time again without a response floors me.
I understand hospitals are very busy. The people that work there have a very hard job and I have much respect for people in the medical field.
However, I have absolutely NO respect for a hospital that can't be bothered to take five minutes out of their day to update someone whos rights were violated at that hospital!
I wanted to keep this quiet because not everything needs to be out in the open but I have rights! And so does everyone else that goes to a hospital seeking medical treatment. The hospital may not care about their patients but I do!
So I strongly advise you to be cautious if you chose to visit this hospital.
They've violated HIPPA rights before,
There is nothing to say that they wont do it again!
And how they have conducted themselves through this investigation goes to show just how much they care about their patients.
