We spent over three hours here trying to get a CT scan to determine extent of my son's concussion. Of that three hours, we spent a total of five minutes in conversation with a nurse and doctor. I'm only giving one star because I couldn't give zero stars. The ER doctor was apologetic about the wait; that's the only good thing about our experience.
When we were finally ready to check out at 1:35 a.m., the clerks gave me paperwork to sign. One of the forms was a notice stating that because the ER employs services that can be billed as "out of network" for our insurer, I "agreed" to be billed for 100% of the cost.
What??!! Why didn't they give me this paperwork when I arrived, not after the services had already been performed? And what choice do I have as to whether a provider is in or out of network in the ER when my son is there for a concussion?! When I asked the clerk why they waited until check out to give me this information, she said, "I don't know. We just started doing this." No apology, no sense of understanding, just blank disregard.
Next time, I'll seriously consider driving to Chattanooga for an issue like this. It would take me roughly the same amount of time, and maybe I'd be treated with courtesy and respect.
Update: I just received the EOB from my insurance company for the charges the hospital filed, and I was stunned. Absolutely appalled at the charges for a CT scan, the radiologist's read, and five minutes with the physician who checked my sons eyes with a penlight and listened to his heart/lungs with a stethoscope. Way above average cost for a CT scan according to the figures I can dig up online. Run, run, run away from this place!
I went to Tennova ER on Sat 6/23 and had a excellent experience. I had an accident while hiking and needed stitches due to a large cut to my lower leg. The check-in process was very efficient and they moved me into Fast Track within 10 minutes. Jenny PA was exceptional. She thoroughly cleaned the wound while explaining what she was doing. She also did a beautiful job of stitching up the wound. She was exceptionally patient and answered all my friends' questions during the entire procedure. Through the entire experience I felt comfortable and cared for. My room and the area we traveled though was very clean. I don't understand the number of negative reviews on this site and the rumors I've heard about this place. I did not find this hospital to be less than like I would have expected from what I've heard.
Oh, I don't want to forget to mention Hayden Patient Access Specialist. While gathering my personal info and insurance details, though he was efficient and to the point, his touch of humor made our evening. Based on my experience I would recommend this hospital if yo are in this area and need care.
This is the worst hospital ever. The rooms are not clean, the hospitality is horrendous, and the staff is rude. I definitely do not recommend this place
Tennova cares absolutely nothing about people. My mom saved up so she could come up with 50.00 to be able to pay for mri with contrast her Dr ordered to see if the spots on her lungs have grown. To see if they need to start chemotherapy again. Tennova refused to do the life saving test unless she could come up with 200 dollars. On social security. Not likely
Came to At at 4am with chest pain was seen with by docs put in a ER room & had another attack at 6am NO STAFF would come when called by call button or open door & yelling . They were too busy in the hall.
There are a few Great staff. But place needs closed
