I have been in the ICU visiting my son and I just want to thank ICU Nurses Lizabeth and Allan for their professional and caring attention to my son. Their positive reassurance to me helped me deal with the situation. Thank you so very much
My reason of going there was for back to back asthma attacks and shortness of breath. With that in mind, here's how my stay was......upon intake, the lady at the kiosk was not interested or could care less what my issue was. She had a very disrespectful and unwelcoming demeanor about her. I only found one person in the hospital helpful. Which his name was Billy....yup that's right...I was pretty much the only person who wanted to see myself get better and figure out what was wrong. They keep you there for a long time, call you back to get vitals, send you back to your seat, then 4 hours later call you back again.... Not to be seen.... Just to get your insurance information.... Which in a perfect world I believe they could do upon the initial intake and vitals. Then they'll send you back out to your seat. Such a flawed system. I would much rather drive over an hour to Shady Grove Hospital.

I am editing to update my experience. I was left to suffer with extreme pain twice. Hand and kidney stone. My third experience within the last 3 months was pretty good.
As a previous employee, ER/CCU/ICU Nurse, I'm ashamed at how poorly this hospital is performing. Arrived in the ER at 5:15 pm with my son because of severe abdominal/inguinal/scrotal pain. My concern was that his pain was 10 then steadily decreased suspecting of a possible testicular torsion. Not all decreasing pain is a positive sign. My son is 22 and an athlete so any pain is of great concern. Triage, insurance checked quicky and here we sit at 8:30 pm waiting. Working as an ER/ICU nurse I know how busy it can be and that's not the issue. No communication is the issue. Implement a communication tool that updates your patients. Inform them of wait times, arrival of ambulances behind the scenes etc. Empower them with knowledge and give them the option to remain or leave. I chose to stay because SMD hospital is no better and Calvert my first choice was extremely busy. The difference between Calvert and here, Excellent communication, professional managerial staff and compassion for patients/family waiting to be seen. This hospital has lost focus on the most important aspect of care: The Patient!! Hire an outside Consulting Firm to do an in depth analysis of why you have such poor ratings. In order to do that you have to care!!
I have been sitting in the waiting room with my hand bleeding for two hours. Every time I ask someone for an update they tell me they don’t know. The ER has about 15 people in it when I got here so I was sure there would be some wait but this is crazy. I am actively bleeding and all the triage nurse did was give me some gauze. Then when I went for an X-ray the tech gave me a new peice because the first one was bloody. At this point I have seen so many people be called yet I am still sitting here. No pain meds, no ice, no help just gauze and people who can’t tell me anything. I would have been better off going to the vet. I only came here because it is the closest hospital to my home but I would have been better off driving a further distance for better service.
