Up Health System Portage

I received excellent care when I had preeclampsia 9 weeks before my due date. The doctor knew that I was going to have to deliver my baby early and had me sent to Marquette so I could deliver there. If I would have delivered at Portage, my baby would have been sent to the NICU in Marquette immediately and I would not have been able to get there for several days while I recovered. While at Portage, the nurses took excellent care of me. I was there for about 5 hours before I was sent to Marquette and the nurses fussed over me the whole time. I felt I was in good hands.

Very unimpressed by the nursing staff. I am a nursing student at Finlandia and we are taught to be caring and compassionate. Neither of those things were shown to me. They had a nursing student come in without introducing them to me and without asking if it was okay that he was there. There was no consent from me. I was in the ER for my visit, and while they spoke to me about some personal questions they left the door wide open — not maintaining privacy at all. If you want to be listened to attentively and feel safe and comfortable do not go to Portage Health.

The most horrific hospital to work for! They do not care about their employees, only about profits. I was dismissed after 15 years of exemplary work, no write ups of any kind, in fact the State of Michigan found there was no reason for dismissal. Did I forget to mention that I was walked out one week after my husband died? The Chief Nursing Want-to-be looked at me and I quote, “I know you have been through a lot.” No kidding! Holding my husband at home in hospice in my arms as he drew his last breath. Don’t waste your time with UPHS , go to Aspirius in Laurium!

The lab says open at 7 but nobody is here. Maybe don’t put a sign on the counter that says lab open from 7am-7pm if you aren’t going to actually open the lab at 7am.

When I need to get fixed up, this is where I go. I trust them and they get me back on my feet. Two thumbs, way up.
