I'm 63 years old and never had any experience with the VA system in any way. However, I've always heard bad things. Well! I've just been exposed to the VA in Ann Arbor through an extensive stay for my dad, who's a Korean War Vet. I cannot say enough good and positive things about every aspect of the experience. Every staff member--from ER, intake, all the docs and nurses, social services, even parking attendants, etc. etc.--have all been exemplary. I'm 100% confident that my dad is in very good hands. I do, however, have to comment about the food, which is frankly like prison food. It needs some serious nutritional attention and the cafeteria is even worse. Both UM and Beaumont Hospitals have done a great job bring variety, diversity and nutritional options to their patients and their public cafeteria. I believe patients, staff and visitors would appreciate and benefit from a serious overhaul of the food options available at the VA. Other than that, carry on!!

Among the best of the VA centers I've seen. Parking is available, free to veterans. Emergency/urgent care 24/7. Caring, friendly staff and volunteers. Associated with UM Health Center, which is good and bad. The experienced docs and nurses are great, and you can have access to some UM specialists; but you also may be seen, diagnosed and treated by brand new docs in almost every specialty clinic, who are not as skilled.

Our family is so thankful for the wonderful care our dad was given. We were so impressed by how everyone we met was friendly and helpful. From ER to ICU to the in patient 5th floor and his final stop the CLC. You helped the family on this journey and it is greatly appreciated.

I love the people there. Hands down one of the best places to go for treatment in the VA system. I am almost always seen at the scheduled time or very close to it. It’s always nice to see familiar faces and be remembered by a very nice staff that makes you comfortable. I go here for my RA, the arthritis clinic is good, and I’ve had some tests done and procedures to investigate various problems I’ve been having. Every time it’s a pleasant efficient experience and everyone is professional and willing to answer any questions I have. The only thing that doesn’t make it perfect is the wait time for appointments, because the VA is always so busy and booked up months ahead of time, but they have made great efforts and successfully got me in sooner when someone cancelled. I really appreciate the people at the Ann Arbor VA and thankful to this country for providing it to us vets. Even with my good health insurance, all my meds and tests would have me almost bankrupt by now. I don’t know what some of the bad reviews are talking about, my experience has always been good and my doctors are always thoughtful and cautious with treating me, unlike others who just throw pills at you that end up causing more problems. With the care I get here and my team in Toledo things have improved for me over the last year and I’m thankful for that! Yes sometimes it can be frustrating dealing with the VA, but these doctors see tons of patients per year and the staff has to deal with the same bureaucracy we do. I’m fortunate to have alternatives since I can still work (thanks to these people), but I’d rather go here than most private practice doctors.

I left my paperwork from the doctor at the hospital after my appointment. I called to see if I could retrieve it. The person I talked to on the blue team was very short with me, said she couldn't help and hung up on me. I don't know why she was so mean. The doctor and the staff were very nice and attentive during my visit. I guess there's always one...
