Asian Health Services (AHS), a healthcare provider based in San Leandro, California, experienced a data breach that was first detected on February 13, 2023, when unusual activity was observed within a company email account. The breach occurred between February 7, 2023, and February 13, 2023, and was confirmed by an investigation with the help of third-party data security specialists. The compromised information included patients’ names, dates of birth, phone numbers, medical record numbers, and other protected health information.

Upon discovering the breach, AHS reviewed the affected files to determine the extent of the compromised information and which consumers were impacted. On May 5, 2023, AHS filed a notice of the data breach with the California Attorney General’s office and began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the incident[1].

Asian Health Services operates approximately 13 clinics in San Leandro and Oakland, employs more than 325 people, and generates about $59 million in annual revenue. The organization provides healthcare, social services, and advocacy services for all individuals, regardless of income, insurance, immigration status, language, or culture[1].
