Breach Description
Elevate Services, Inc., a company providing legal support services to law firms and insurance companies, experienced a significant data breach that was officially reported on December 28, 2022. The breach, which appears to have been a ransomware attack, resulted in unauthorized access to sensitive consumer information. This incident was first identified when Elevate Services’ computer system became inaccessible due to malicious file encryption on March 14, 2022. The unauthorized access began on March 5, 2022, and lasted until March 15, 2022.
The compromised data includes consumers’ names, birthdates, Social Security numbers, addresses, claims information, medical history, and compensation amounts. Elevate Services initiated an investigation to understand the extent of the breach and to identify the consumers affected by this incident. Following the investigation, the company began sending out data breach notification letters to all impacted individuals.
Elevate Services, Inc., headquartered in Los Angeles, California, was founded in 2011. It employs over 1,240 people and generates approximately $87 million in annual revenue. The company specializes in providing consulting, technological support, and other services to lawyers, law firms, and law departments.
The breach raises significant concerns about the potential for identity theft and fraud, as the leaked information could be used by cybercriminals to commit various types of financial crimes. Consumers affected by the breach are advised to take steps to protect themselves, such as monitoring their credit reports and considering placing a fraud alert or credit freeze on their credit files[1][3].
