This Hospital Breach
Breach Description
The Texas Medical Liability Trust (TMLT) and its affiliates experienced a significant data breach that was first detected on October 12, 2022. The breach, which occurred between October 2 and October 13, 2022, involved unauthorized access to TMLT’s systems, potentially compromising the sensitive personal information of over 59,900 individuals. This information included names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, medical treatment and diagnosis information, and health insurance information
TMLT, a provider of medical malpractice insurance for Texas physicians, initiated an investigation with the help of third-party data security specialists upon detecting suspicious activity within its IT environment. The investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor had gained access to its systems
By August 18, 2023, TMLT completed the review of the affected files and began notifying the impacted individuals, offering them complimentary credit monitoring services
The breach was officially reported to the Attorney General of Maine on September 11, 2023, on behalf of TMLT and its affiliates: Texas Medical Insurance Company, Physicians Insurance Company, and Lone Star Alliance
