Breach Description
Wentworth Health Partners Garrison Women’s Health (GWH) in Dover, New Hampshire, experienced a significant data breach affecting its patient medical records. This incident was the result of unauthorized third-party activity that targeted one of GWH’s technology service providers, Global Network Systems. The breach, which was discovered on December 12, led to the corruption and loss of medical records for 4,158 patients. The data affected included appointment records, personal health information, physician notes, encounter and scheduling data, medical and treatment information, coding, claims, insurance/payment information, and scheduling information for upcoming appointments. Despite efforts to recover the data, some information remains irretrievable due to corruption and backup issues. However, specific radiology and ultrasound applications were restored. The breach did not impact Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s network or any other core clinical systems. GWH has taken steps to notify affected patients and has provided resources for those with questions or concerns about their medical records.
The breach occurred between April 29, 2022, and December 12, 2022, during which unauthorized third-party activity rendered certain patient care service information inaccessible. Global Network Systems, upon discovering the incident, engaged a third-party forensic and recovery firm to conduct a review. GWH has emphasized that there is no evidence that the information was viewed or taken
