Is IVF treatment painful?
IVF is generally quite uncomfortable. You will be given medication to relax your muscles during the IVF procedure to feel comfortable throughout the whole process. Depending on what type of anesthesia is being used, you may also receive painkillers. Your doctor may choose to administer local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. Local anesthesia means you only experience discomfort when the needle is actually being put inside your body. General anesthesia is administered intravenously, meaning that you do not feel any pain until you wake up from the procedure.
You may also feel sore afterward, but this should pass quickly. Your doctor will tell you exactly how long it takes for everything to go away.
